Downtown Lawrence Film Festival
June 5, 2008, June 19, 2008, July 3, 2008, August 7, 2008, August 21, 2008

The second annual Downtown Lawrence Film Festival will once again feature classic film noir offerings that will be fun for the whole family. Join us under the stars with your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy live music, free popcorn, prize drawings and classic black & white films. Featured films include:

June 5th - The Maltese Falcon starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre, directed by John Huston, written by Dashiell Hammet and John Huston, released in 1941

June 19th - Notorious starring Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, written by Ben Hecht, released in 1946

July 3rd - The Postman Always Rings Twice starring Lana Turner, John Garfield and Hume Cronyn, directed by Tay Garnett, written by Harry Ruskin and Niven Busch, released 1946

August 7th - Key Largo starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Edward G. Robinson, Lionel Barrymore and Claire Trevor, directed by John Huston, written by Maxwell Anderson and Richard Brooks, released 1948

August 21st - Dark Command starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Walter Pidgeon, Roy Rogers and Gabby Hayes, directed by Raoul Walsh, written by W.R. Burnett and Jan Fortune, released 1940 (part of the Civil War On The Western Frontier events)

Historic Downtown Lawrence Walking Tours
Saturdays, June 7th thru October 25, 2008

Join KU Architecture and Urban Design students for an entertaining and enlightening tour of historic Downtown Lawrence. Departing from the Farmers Market, tours will wind through Downtown with stops at various locations and return to the Farmers Market. Three distinct tours will run in repertory throughout the summer and fall. Come early and enjoy breakfast at the Farmers Market. Shop for fresh produce following your tour.

Downtown Lawrence Busker Fest 2008
August 22, 23 & 24, 2008

A two-day festival of street performers in historic Downtown Lawrence. Professional buskers from around the country will flock to Lawrence for the first annual Busker Fest. These talented street performers will bring their unique form of public entertainment to the sidewalks and streets of Downtown Lawrence for a two-day festival.

Downtown Lawrence Fall Bazaar
October 25, 2008

Join Downtown merchants for the third annual Fall Bazaar. This open-air market will feature new Fall merchandise displayed outside where shoppers can enjoy the crisp Fall weather. The event will also feature street performances by the Vodvil Klown, balloon animals by The Balloon Man, a pen full of puppies and other adoptable dogs from the Lawrence Humane Society, KU Juggling Club demonstration and Halloween Crafts for kids.

Downtown Lawrence Holiday Ceremony and Santa’s Arrival
November 28, 2008

Join us in Downtown Lawrence where the holiday comes alive with our Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony. The evening begins with singing by local choral groups as we anxiously await the arrival of Santa on the rooftop of Weaver’s Department Store. Once rescued from the roof by the Lawrence Fire Department, Santa will visit with children.

Lawrence Old Fashioned Christmas Parade
